Internal Funding Program Metrics

Research Communications, Development & Learning (RCDL) tracks data on the Office of Research and Economic Development's internal faculty development funding programs. Metrics include return on investment (ROI), award distribution by department, awardee demographics, impact (productivity outcomes), and competitiveness (funding rates). Data from research development practitioners suggests that multi-year follow up at the three-year mark and beyond is necessary to track return on investment for internal funding programs (Partlow 2018*).

Our own data is consistent with this finding, and demonstrates that returns only continue to grow with time.

The Research and Scholarly Development Grant and Seed Grant to Support the Arts & Humanities began in fiscal year 2014. The Faculty Productivity Grant began in fiscal year 2015. Administration of the Faculty Development Council Grant was transferred to RCDL in 2018. The Faculty Development Council Fellows program was piloted in 2019. Program data are collected annually at the close of the award cycle.
