Three University of South Alabama business students recently were recognized for submitting the best paper at the 2020 Society of Marketing Advances (SMA) annual conference.
Mitchell College of Business doctoral students Jennifer Henderson, Amanda Ledet and Emory Serviss won Best Paper in the Business-to-Business track, as well as the Steven J. Shaw & Joe Hair Overall Conference Best Paper award, at the November conference for their research paper “Communication Alignment in Sales: The Role of Emotional Intelligence.”
“Being selected for an award like this is quite an honor for these students, but also a recognition of the quality of the Mitchell College of Business Ph.D. program and its students,” said Dr. Joe Hair, director of the Ph.D. program. “This type of award, seldom won by graduate students, will certainly expand the job opportunities for these and other MCOB Ph.D. students upon graduation.”
The students’ award-winning paper examines how digital communications and technology have impacted the selection of the appropriate communication platform for sales encounters. Their research also identifies potential negative outcomes that may occur when the appropriate communication platform is not utilized.
Henderson, Ledet and Serviss are part of the seventh cohort of Mitchell College of Business Ph.D. students.. Henderson currently serves as Instructor of Information Systems in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, Louisiana State University (LSU). Ledet is an Instructor at LSU in the Department of Marketing. Serviss currently serves as the Program Champion and instructor in the Department of Marketing, Auburn University.
