The Indian Student Association welcomes students, faculty and staff to celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colors, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, on the University of South Alabama intramural fields. The festival has been celebrated in India for centuries but has grown in popularity around the word. Here are five things to know before going:

  1. The spring festival features people showering one another with colored powder and tinted water. A rainbow of different hues. Friends end up drenched in color from head to toe.
  2. Pro tip: Wear white. All of those colors show up better on light clothing. The first 100 people at the event will receive white souvenir T-shirts.
  3. Enjoy Indian food, drink and music. Bollywood tunes will provide a soundtrack for the festival. Vendors include the Biryani Pot restaurant and Kwality Ice Cream. Volunteers with Camp Kesem will offer free face painting.
  4. Cool off and clean up. No need to go home a colorful mess. There will be showers and hoses at the intramural fields.
  5. Bring a friend. Admission is free. 鈥淚t鈥檚 open to everyone,鈥 said Neil Chaudhary, president of the Indian Student Association. 鈥淲e want people to come and learn about our culture. The more the merrier.鈥
